Volunteer projects

A good morning's work
A good morning's work

We are always looking for people to join our volunteers at the port or out in the field. To find out what projects are ongoing or planned for the future, email us using the Contact page.

Depending on demand, we build penguin nesting boxes, rat trap tunnels and we occasionally need help installing them. The vegetation at the colony is thriving, so a team of volunteers help year round to keep those natives in check.

Possible future work includes fencing, predator control and revegetation of penguin nesting sites.

Work space, storage and shelter

The Trust has recently received generous support from the New Zealand Motor Caravan Association (NZMCA), with whom we share the wider port area. The grant was made available via their Greenfund scheme:

"Greenfund is an NZMCA initiative helping to fund grassroots environmental and conservation projects throughout New Zealand."

With this contribution, as well as Tasman District Council and Plankville's financial support, we were able to purchase a wooden shed, locally milled and put together. We now have a "home". Thank you!
